If I Were Rich, I Would Buy: Valentino F/W 2013 Gown

If you consider Wednesday Adams to be a bit of a style icon, then you'll find this gown as irresistible as I do. I've never been a huge gown girl (like, I've never craved wearing one) but, if an occasion called for one, I'd most likely choose something like this. Yes, it's a little nun-like, but that's never stopped me before.

Valentino designers, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, have been knocking out incredible work since taking over from the great one. Their F/W 2013, predominately black and white, collection borrows notes from the Dutch masters and their dramatic portraits, most notably, Vermeer's Girl With a Pearl Earring

Just look at the beading. My god, and it's only ready-to-wear.

$17,000 at Net-a-Porter

I loved that part of the collection. The stark black and white contrast, reminiscent to the chiaroscuro well employed by the Dutch and Flemish painters ... (sorry for geeking out, I took art for ages.)
The only problem I have w/ this gown would be the sparkly-ness, but I guess it's appropriate for the upcoming holidays. And honestly, the more nun-like, the better. I spent the better part of my childhood creating makeshift habits out of paper towels while I attended Catholic school.
