Beauty Fridays: Five Summer Braids

Lela Rose S/S 2011

Last year there was the famous Alexander Wang side swept braid and this season Lela Rose has a similar thing going on with sort of a deconstructed version of it. I love the messiness. It's kind of like if the Alexander Wang braid woke up after a very long nap.

Lacoste S/S 2011

The tiny little braid at Lacoste is just so darn cute. I've never been able to figure out how to braid so close to the hairline so if anyone knows of a good how-to video, let me know!

Behnaz Sarafpour S/S 2011

This twisty knot braid is super adorable and a great non-chignon option. Looks like it's pretty easy to do: changing direction from one side to another.

Alexis Mabille Couture Spring 2011

If you take away the flowers, this is a straight up ponytail braid. Blake Lively has been wearing it a lot lately and I've been very jealous of her. My hair is just not long enough.

Ungaro S/S 2011

Let me just say how glad I am that Ungaro is back to normal sans Lindsay Lohan. Not only was the garden showing the perfect venue for a little comeback, but these milkmaid braids really added to the whole romantic concept. I wear this style a lot! It's super easy: you make two braids and connect them at the top with bobby pins.

To braid or not to braid? Which style would you love to try?

We are totally on the same wave length here. I did a post on braids a while back,

http://nomadic-d.blogspot.com/2011/03/bottom-braids.html

but the new braids you've posted here are gorgeous. I'm especially loving the first two options, and though the third one is stunning, there's pretty much no way I'd ever be able to give myself an s-shaped french braid. But I did do a fishtail yesterday and just posted it today:

I think this summer's going to be braid mania. For me at least. Great post!

Ignore the clearly amateur style of this video..but this is all I do now if I want to "braid" my bangs...its so easy. Just twist and you're done and it looks just as cute!

Hmm I don't think I have the skills or the non-slippery hair to pull off a lot of these! They're very pretty to look at though.

A while ago I saw a tutorial for a side French braid updo that I've been dying to try:

It'd be so pretty for attending a summer wedding.

Nomadic D.,

I just saw your post this morning! Super awesome coincidence.

Lisa,

Thanks! That's so gorgeous!

For "slippery" hair, I find that dry shampoo makes it a bit easier to work with.

Lola,

Thanks for the video! Looks so hard.

I've been doing the twist thing too and, I agree, it's super cute!
