Beauty Fridays: Everything Is Coming Up Rainbows

Jac at Derek Lam S/S 2010 RTW

The rainbow eye from Derek Lam's S/S 2010 runway is definitely going to be one of the boldest summer beauty trends. Similar to the Donna Karan white eyeliner look, this look is extreme so 'proceed with caution'.

Inspirations for the collection were colours and shapes inspired by nostalgia for Americana amusement resorts. To compliment the collection, NARS' lead make-up artist, Tom Pecheux, created a carnival for the eyes or what he referred to as "Coney Island chic."

To create the look, Pecheux used several NARS Duo Eyeshadows. Along the lower lash line, he used the emerald side of 'Misfit'. Then, he dusted the 'Violet' side of 'Jolie Poupee' on the eyelids and applied the darker side to the crease. Pecheux highlighted the inner corners of the eyes using a highlighter. To finish it off, he dusted the burnt orange side of 'Mediteranee' along the brow line.

Don't forget to blend where the colours meet, otherwise you will end up with a clown tranny look.

Nars is available at Sephora.

LOL at "Coney Island chic" and "clown tranny."

I found a Japanese fashion mag at the downtown library a couple months ago which was NOTHING but eye makeup tutorials. They had a couple of tutorials about doing multicoloured eyes, but because it was an Asian mag and the au courant look in East Asia is "natural and polished," the colours they used were quite light. Probably not as pigmented as the NARS products. :-/
