Item of the Week: H&M Faux Fur Vest(s)

I feel remorse about the excessive items I posted last week. This week I'm all about budget shopping. H&M has received the first batch of the fall collection. I must say a lot of the items looked tempting but fake fur vests stood out for their versatility; from cabin country chic to the ultimate glamour queen look.

They didn't have my size so I got this knitted
faux fur trim vest:

It was a tie anyways.

Both vests are $69.95 CAD at H&M.

Style Icons: The Kennedys

We have established on this blog that great style has nothing to do with money, but it has everything to with class. That is just what Kennedys demonstrated over the last century. In honour of the recent passings of Senator Edward Kennedy and Eunice Kennedy-Shriver, a look at Kennedy style:

Joseph and Rose Kennedy on their wedding day. These days brides carry tiny little bouquets. I like Rose's monster size bouquet. Something to think about for next year.

Rose Kennedy with the kids. I love matching haircuts on the girls.

Kennedy girls in summer dresses.

JFK and Jackie's wedding day (1952). Most gorgeous gown designed by African-American fashion designer Ann Lowe.

All American casual chic. Loving Jackie's sweater.

The Kennedy brothers with matching haircuts (their best feature) and white teeth.

Jackie and her sister Lee on a visit to India.

Jackie and Lee on a camel, A-line dresses and pearls in tow.

Lee and Jackie in completely different styles. I love Lee's white suit and Jackie's mini-dress. I'm going to guess YSL for both.

Now Jackie O, Jackie in a white YSL and her signature black sunnies.

A very casual Jackie in jeans and a turtleneck.

A timeless beauty, Lee Radziwill in a white cashmere turtleneck.

Lee in her own black/white combo.

Stunning Lee by Andy Warhol.

Caroline Kennedy on her wedding day (1986) in a Carolina Herrera wedding gown. I love the little clover leaves in honour of Kennedys Irish heritage.

JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette on their weeding day in 1996. Her wedding dress was designed by her friend and designer Narciso Rodriguez.

Known for her simple and elegant style, Carolyn was often compared to Jackie in terms of style.

Casual New Yorker chic, I love how they matched red, blue and black.

No make-up needed: just a chignon and a bright red lipstick.

Absolutely timeless.

Band of Outsiders Fall/Winter 2009 Lookbook

Band of Outsiders' designer Scott Sternberg always manages to get the coolest celebrities to star in his lookbooks; Kirsten Dunst, Sarah Silverman and now Jason Schwartzman. Scott Sternberg photographed Jason himself for the lookbook inspired by 1967 Jean-Luc Godard film La Chinoise. (I haven't seen the film but I love À Bout de souffle. Have you?)

Cute, no? View the rest at

Band of Outsiders is available at Roden Grey and Jonathan and Olivia in Vancouver.

Read: The New Yorker Style Issues

For most people the September issue of Vogue is the ultimate piece of fashion literature. For me, it's the New Yorker's biannual style issues: one in March and one in September. What I look forward to most is the designer profiles. They are so insightful, well-written, and amazingly blunt. I've already posted one on Lagerfeld and the one on Valentino. I can't wait to get the next issue! Who will they profile next?

March 2009: Alber Elbaz profile

March and September 2008: Rick Owens and Marc Jacobs profiles

March and September 2007: Karl Lagerfeld and Donatella Versace profiles

March and September 2006: Hedi Slimane and Diane Von Furstenberg profiles

Christian, will you sponsor me?

Urban Outfitters Fall 2009 Lookbook: Just Shoes

Urban Outfitters can be so hit and miss, my fiancé calls it 'Suburban Outfitters'. Sometimes it can be an exercise in patience combing through a gazillion graphic Ts, tie-die tunics, flannel shirts, denim vests, fedoras... Oh my, didn't like that look the first time around - why is it back? But grunge nostalgia aside, Urban Outfitters always has an amazing selection of the latest shoe trends for a reasonable price. It's usually my first stop when I'm in need for a quick and cheap shoe fix.

Beauty Fridays: Golden Eyes

Anja Rubik smothered in gold (Japan Vogue May 2009)

I'm attracted to all things gold. I can't help it. I've been collecting gold eye shadows for years and now that I've gotten my hands on the Gold Shu Uemura Eyelashes, I need some serious gold to match them. These are some of my favs that I tested so far:

Cargo Mojave
I've been using this one for years. Amazing Cargo.

MAC Goldmine
I usually wear MAC's Goldmine to glam it up during Christmas season. All-time fav.

Chanel Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Gold
Tried it. Loved it. Very very bright yellow gold.

Stila Eye Shadow Trio
Great smart packaging. Love three times.

Shu Uemura Me Gold 331

Shu Uemura Me Gold 340

Shu Uemura Me Gold 350

Shu Uemura Ir Gold 350
I love that Shu made not one but three different golds. I want to get all of them and blend them.

Oscar de la Renta Ready-to-Wear Spring 2008
(Love this look. Last year but whatev)

Gold can be both day and evening, summer and winter. It goes with every skin colour. Wear with black eyeliner and mascara but don't overdo on the make-up! Keep the rest of the face simple: minimal blush and natural lip.
